History
For over a century, the Piazzetta has lured a who’s who of prominent figures in the world
Over the past few decades, Capri has thus come to represent a heady mixture, a chosen spot that has drawn luminaries as diverse as Oscar Wilde, Marguerite Yourcenar, Maxim Gorky and Curzio Malaparte, as well as Brigitt Bardot and Jackie Kennedy.
Nature
The island’s main anchorage, the port of Marina Grande, is ringed by towering cliffs that loom above it, while the little fishing boats moored there lend the scene a splash of local colour
When you arrive, you are overawed by a spectacular coastline of jagged rocks, turquoise sea and mysterious grottoes. And as soon as you set foot on the island, you are seduced by the little houses with square balconies, the narrow twisting streets and the café terraces waiting to welcome you
Relax
This is not just a place for a quick stopover, a destination like any other. Capri has been described as ‘opus dei, the work of god’.
It has been home to a magnificent array of characters since the dawn of time – ever since the blind poet Homer honed a place in Greek myth for it with the Sirens.
